After an impassioned plea from Trevor Road residents at the September 06 Triangle Residents meeting, it was agreed that a combined by both Associations to protect a number of historic buildings in the Triangle would have the best results.

The controversial decision by developers and estate agents to propose the demolition of Rose Cottage and the former Gurdwara has evoked such interest that local newspapers such as The Comet have made the story front page news.

Rose Cottage is a significant part of Hitchin's past, as it was the home of Samuel Lucas - a noted Quaker artist, and the Hawkins family.

After the Gurdwara Sikh Temple left its Radcliffe Road site, local residents hoped for a sympathetic development that would help to preserve the former St. Saviour's school and therefore the character of the group of buildings commissioned by Reverend Gainsford including The Cloisters and the Holy Saviour Church, designed by reknowned architect William Butterfield.
