Parking

Parking: Editorial

The results of the survey are out but the controversy continues. At the 2nd June public meeting of the Triangle Residents Association it was decided by a clear majority vote to petition the council to introduce a permit parking scheme for the whole Triangle area.

This decision will not be to everyone's liking. Some of the residents of Dacre Road have spearheaded the campaign for restricted parking and will want to go it alone if the Triangle as a whole fails to meet the council rules for eligibility. The TRA cannot support this because of the knock-on effects to other roads. However, we must put our greatest effort into supporting a scheme for the whole area. Failure will be a bad let down for Dacre Rd. and in the long run for all Triangle residents. The Parking problem will simply get worse particularly if parking permit schemes are introduced in surrounding areas. At the last meeting of the Hitchin Area Committee councillors considered petitions from two other residents associations in the Highbury ward for parking permit schemes.
